 The extremely fertile island of Java , home of mankinds earliest ancestor. Inhabitants more than 100 million people on an island the size of England,resulting in a population of at least twice the density of any other comparable are on earth.
The landscape of Java is distinguished by its 121 volcanoes,rising stately to a height of 2.500 to 4.000 metres,of which around 30 are still active .
Despite their awesome destructiveness,causing entire villages to be wiped out,the volcanoe eruptions are in fact the ultimate source of Javas fecundity.
Around 1800 Javas Population stagnated about 3,5 million inhabitants. As a result only the choicest land was tilled thus producing a vast surplus of wet rice cultivation output. Through Dutch interventions,between 1830 - 1970 more and more lands were opened to agriculture. Consequently , a growth of the Javanese population reached up to 28 million people in 1900.
